Obituary

Donald Taylor (Don or Grumpy) Smith, 76, of Idaho Falls, died Friday, March 31, 2017, at his home after battling Cancer. He was under the care of Hands of Hope Hospice.

Don was born on January 4, 1941, in Sacramento, California to Ira Willis and Viola Juanita Taylor Smith. He grew up in Sacramento County and graduated from La Sierra High School in 1959.

On October 12, 1985, he married Donna Gay Clayton. They were remarried on December 7, 2016, which was on their 40th Anniversary of their first date.

He was a mechanic, fabricator and welder. He had his own Harley Davidson repair shop called Old School American Iron.

Don enjoyed riding and working on Harleys and race cars. He fabricated a Formula Vee race car. Built a Sandrail from frame up, customized a 1968 GMC Truck. He enjoyed talking to anyone about cars.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Clayton, of Idaho Falls, Idaho; his sons: Michael A. (Tracy) Smith, of Fortuna, California and Kevin R. (Dana) Smith, of Grants Pass, Oregon; 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his Father in 1983; his mother in 2014; his brother, Jerry in 2001; and his son, Brian Taylor in 2009.
