Obituary

Donna Doreen Mondada, 80, formerly of Idaho Falls passed away on January 24, 2015 in Boise following a short battle with cancer. She spent the last 3 years in Boise to be closer to her family. Her final days were spent lovingly surrounded by her family. Donna was born September 16, 1934 in Boise, Idaho to Herbert Anderson and Jennie Paulsen Anderson. She spent many happy hours of her childhood at her grandparent's farm in Wapello until the family moved to Oregon in 1941. The family settled in Central Point, Oregon in 1946. She was in the first graduating class from Crater High School in 1952, and then attended Southern Oregon College in Ashland for two years. In 1955, she moved to Pocatello where she taught ballroom dancing with the Arthur Murray Studios. She so enjoyed sharing her love of dance with others. In 1956 she moved to Idaho Falls and began working for Westinghouse. It was there that a handsome young man caught her eye and she and Tom were married in 1957. This union would last for 51 years until Tom passed away in 2009. They were blessed with two sons Michael and Alan. Donna loved being a wife and mother more than anything else. Her family was always her top priority. She was always involved in and supported her son's many activities no matter what was needed. She had always had a love of dolls and when she saw an advertisement about how to start a doll hospital, she sent in for the course and a lifelong, rewarding hobby was born. She bought a kiln and set up shop in her basement. She taught herself how to repair and dress old dolls. Donna took it a step further and began to make her own porcelain dolls. She was an incredible seamstress and dressed her dolls in antique and period costumes. Donna was always learning and teaching herself something new, whether it was sewing clothes, making quilts, tap dancing, golfing or ice skating. She joined the Idaho Falls tennis center and played with several tennis groups. She was also an avid bridge player. She and Tom danced with the Bill Brandon's Promenaders square dance group for 20 years. Tom and Donna bought a trailer and spent time traveling to Arizona and summers in Mackay, Idaho. Through all these activities Donna made many dear and cherished friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Tom, and her sister Joyce. She is survived by her two sons; Michael (Jennifer), and their daughters Katie and Carson; Alan (Peggy), and their son Aaron; one brother, Dewey (Rosemary) Anderson of Roseburg, Oregon; a sister, Janet Boylan (Donald) of Eagle River, Alaska; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 31, 2015, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls, Idaho. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery in Firth, Idaho.
