IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Donna Loy
Thornock
July 28, 1951 – March 6, 2024
Donna Loy Thornock, 72, of Rigby, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at her home of cancer. She was under the care of Aspen Home Health and Hospice.
Loy was born July 28, 1951, in Shelley, Idaho, to Deloy Kelsey and Donna Ella Pohl Kelsey. She grew up and attended school in the southeast Idaho area. She graduated from Ririe High School in 1969, although she had a habit of skipping class to play basketball in the gym. She attended Milady Beauty College in Rexburg and worked for a time as a cosmetologist.
She lived in California for several years where she met and married Steve Tryk. Two children were born to this union: Stacie and Kellie. She also loved and raised 2 stepchildren.
Following their separation and divorce in 1991, she moved to Ririe, Idaho with her daughters. She worked in Idaho Falls for the State of Idaho Department of Health and Welfare with Medicaid Services until her retirement.
Through her brother-in-law's sneaky attempts at playing matchmaker, she met and married David William Thornock on May 31, 1997.
She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where some of her favorite ways to serve included in the primary (she loved children) and as an ordinance worker in the Rexburg LDS Temple. She loved doing family history work and over the years she filled in hundreds of empty places in her family tree.
She loved staying active and played softball and volleyball in her church and community. She often went camping with her family while raising her daughters and had been known to participate in various forms of water warfare with her nephews. She enjoyed animals and always had a number of dogs and/or cats running around both inside and outside the house at any given time (for the record, she never called them "strays" they were the "outside kitties"). Her love for people was evident in many of her daughters' friends making themselves at home with her and calling her Momma Loy. The door was often unlocked so they felt welcome just walking in, and she always made a point of telling them she loved them and that they were beautiful. In her retirement years, she had the opportunity to travel with her sisters and friends both in and out of the country. She loved getting together for sister lunches where loud laughter was abundant and going for drives through the countryside with her friends. Most of all, she loved her 4 granddaughters. She spoiled them only a little bit (wink, wink), and she got a kick out of the amount of sass they dealt back to their mothers, sometimes even egging them on as though they'd deserved it.
In her final days, she enjoyed eating wild cookies, watching zombie movies, and taking naps. We miss her dearly, but we know she is at peace and without pain while she enjoys an amazing reunion with her loved ones.
The family would like to express thanks to Coltrin Mortuary and Aspen Home Health and Hospice for their care and love for our mother and sister during her final days.
She is survived by her daughters: Stacie (Michael) Tonks of Ucon, Idaho, and Kellie (Aramis) Cabrera of Rigby, Idaho; sisters: Cindy Worrell of St. Anthony, Idaho, and Jayne (Paul) Cardenas of Firth, Idaho; brother, Kerry Kelsey of Parker, Idaho; granddaughters: Megan, Mikaela, Avery, and Oakley; stepchildren: Gary Tryk and Melanie Tryk of Chandler, AZ; Sara Baugh and Gabriel Baugh of Boise, ID. She is preceded in death by her husband, David Thornock; father, Deloy Kelsey; mother, Donna Kelsey; sister, Trina Kelsey; and brother, Cody Kelsey.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 11, 2024, at the Shelton Ward, 14061 N. 130 E., Ririe, with Bishop Robert Stirling officiating. Her family will meet with friends and family from 6:30-8:00 p.m., Sunday, March 10, 2024, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls, and one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Sutton Cemetery in Archer, Idaho.
