Dorothy Jo Archibald, 85, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2014 at her home from natural causes. She was blessed to spend these last 2 years in her home while under the compassionate care of her granddaughter Ashley Archibald and Encompass Hospice care. She was born June 27, 1929 in Fullerton, Nebraska to Basil Call and Lola A. Hogge Call. In 1932 during the Great Depression, Dorothy Jo's older sister, Elaine, passed away from leukemia. In 1938, Dorothy Jo's mother suddenly passed away after childbirth. Dorothy Jo, with her younger siblings, Peggy and Alan, lived with her, Aunt Leah Call, in Havre, Montana until her father remarried. Later, they moved to Rigby to be with their father, new stepmother, Alice, and her children, Karolyn and Don Kerlee. Dorothy Jo was a distinguished and trained musician. She played the saxophone in the band, sang in numerous choirs and ensembles, and was a member of the Speech Club at Rigby High School. She was a member of the Chansonettes Choir and loved playing the piano and organ. She served as Ward Organist for over 50 years. Dorothy Jo met Ralph Archibald on a blind date. They shared a love for dancing and music. Dorothy Jo and Ralph were married September 19, 1947. She worked as a telephone operator in Idaho Falls and later as a farm wife near Salem, Idaho. Her first year on the farm was without plumbing, running water or electricity. In 1955, with three young sons in her one room home, Ralph received a call from the Church to leave his family to serve for two-years in the Eastern States Mission. After much thought, Dorothy Jo told him, "Ralph, what is there to think about? You are going!" She sold Avon and worked in the harvests during those years. Many "tender mercies" from the Lord were manifest at that time. In 1958, they moved to Rigby. Ralph worked as an insurance agent and she as a stay-at-home mom. In 1977, they moved to Idaho Falls. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many capacities including Ward and Temple Organist, choir member, Young Women and Relief Society Organizations and Dance Activity leader. Ralph and Dorothy Jo served a mission to New Mexico in 1992. Ralph and Dorothy Jo also served in the Idaho Falls Temple for many years. Ralph passed away in 2007. She had a strong testimony and love for the Lord Jesus Christ and in His Glorious Atonement and Resurrection. She had a sure knowledge of Life after Death. Survivors include her sister, Peggy (ZJ) Egbert of Ashton; brother, Alan Call of Anaheim, CA, sons: Steven (Marilyn) of Ammon; Calvin of Fruit Heights, UT; Larry (Nancy) of Idaho Falls; Blair (Lorrie) of St. George, UT; Creed (Cammie) of Alpine, UT; Jim (Nancy) of Shelley, ID and daughter, JoAnn of Meridian, ID. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ralph and sister, Elaine Archibald.She has 7 children and 37 grandchildren and 50 great grandchildren. Services will be held at 11a.m. Friday October 24, 2014 at the Eastview LDS Ward, 2349 Virlow St., (next to the Falls Valley Elementary School), in Idaho Falls, Id. with Bishop John Irving officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6 - 8 p.m. Thursday, October 23, 2014, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls and Friday at the church one hour prior to the services.
