IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dorothy Helen
Riggs
August 7, 1944 – July 9, 2018
Dorothy Helen Riggs, 73, of Idaho Falls, died Monday, July 9, 2018, at Good Samaritan Village of Idaho Falls.
Dorothy was born on August 7, 1944, in Estevan, Saskatchewan, Canada to Geraldine and Robert Friedrick. When she was very young the family moved to Lewiston, Idaho where she attended school. She graduated from Lewiston High School in 1962. In 1963, she graduated from Kinman Business College. She then received an associate's degree in Police Officer training from Lewis and Clark State College in 1971.
On May 16, 1964, she married Charles Bolon in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho. To this union three children were born: Whitney, Charlyss, and Lance. She and Charles divorced in 1968. She then married Kevin Riggs and they were later divorced.
Dorothy raised her children in Lewiston, Idaho. All three children left Lewiston to obtain college degrees and find work. She spent about 6 years in Rathdrum, Idaho near her sister and brother's families. All of her children eventually settled in Idaho Falls. Dorothy spent the last 17 years living in Idaho Falls near her children and grandchildren.
While living in Lewiston, she worked at the Lewiston Police Department as a dispatcher; Potlatch Corporation as a Secretary/Receptionist for Engineering & Technical Services; University of Idaho, College of Education as secretary to the Director. She worked and/or volunteered for the Lewis & Clark Alcohol & Drug program; the Community Action Agency in Lewiston and for Asotin County Health Department.
Dorothy enjoyed crafts, gardening, reading and traveling. Our mother was always planning and saving for her next trip. She loved seeing new places, such as: Europe, New Zealand, Fuji, China and all over the United States. Many a state side trip was made camping out of a little Ford Maverick with her three children!
Dorothy was visually impaired for most of her life. She was completely blind the past 5 years. She loved sitting out the back door on her patio with the ladies where she lived. They visited, laughed and listened/watched their dogs play. She was also an avid reader. She received book loans from the Idaho Talking book Service. Reading kept her busy during the cold winter months when visiting was difficult.
In lieu of flowers please donate to Idaho Talking Book Service at the Idaho Commission for Libraries online at http://libraries.idaho.gov/page/idaho-commission-libraries-appreciates-your-support or you can mail a check to ICfL, 325 W. State Street, Boise, Idaho 83702.
She is survived by her children: Whitney Bolon (Curtis) St. Michel, Charlyss Bolon Lee and Lance Bolon all of Idaho Falls, Idaho; her brothers: Robert (Melissa) Friedrick of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho and Edward (Camille) Friedrick of Spokane, Washington; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Geraldine and Robert Friedrick and her sister, Cora Friedrick.
Our mother requested no memorial service. A graveside service will be planned in August. She wished to be buried in Lewiston, Idaho near her parents and sister. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.coltrinmortuary.com.
