Duane Wallace Bishop, 85, passed away peacefully in Idaho Falls, Idaho, on September 19, 2013, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was surrounded by his loving family and was reunited with his son, Tom, and daughter, Lanette, who were waiting to greet him with open arms. Duane was a humble, dedicated, and dependable man who was devoted to his wife, children, family, and friends. Duane was born on July 30, 1928, in Orem, Utah, to Angus Henry and Della Mae Mecham Bishop. He was the oldest of 10 children. Duane grew up in Oregon and Utah and graduated from Payson High School. He served a mission for the LDS Church in the Great Lakes Mission. Duane married Dorothy Wright in the Salt Lake Temple, on August 7, 1952. They were the parents of 7 children. Duane moved his young family from Blanding, Utah, to the San Diego area, where he worked for Enniss Steel for most of his working years. He and Dorothy left California and moved to Utah, and eventually to Idaho, where he spent the rest of his life. Duane was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many capacities, including bishoprics, High Priest leadership, ward and stake missionary, and temple ordinance worker with his wife, his most loved calling. He also loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He spent several years as a river boatman on the Colorado River. Duane is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy of Idaho Falls; Daughters: DonEla (Fred) Sandlin of Steamboat Springs, Colorado; Diane (Clifton) Kerbs of Rigby, Idaho; Beverly (Craig) Woods of Globe, Arizona; and Stacy (Michael) Brooks of Highland, Utah; Son, Russell (Ronda) Bishop of Idaho Falls; Daughter-in-law, Ann Bishop of West Chester, Ohio; Brothers: Floyd (Nyda) Bishop of Manti, Utah; Dean (Nona Kay) Bishop, Loran (Edith) Bishop, and Dennis (Debbie, deceased) Bishop all of Payson, Utah; Neil (Dixie, deceased) Bishop of Salt Lake City, Utah; Kieth (Nora Jean) of Bountiful, Utah; Clyde (Charleen) Bishop of Burley, Idaho; Claude Bishop of Merced, California; Sister: Kolleen (Brent) Ekins of Spanish Fork, Utah; 26 Grandchildren, 67 Great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Duane is preceded in death by his parents, Angus Henry and Della Mae Bishop, a son, Tom Bishop, and a daughter, Lanette Bishop. The family will receive friend from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls. The family will also visit with friends from 9:30-10:30 a.m, Thursday, September 26, 2013, at the San Juan Mortuary, 370 S. Main St., in Blanding prior to the services. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. that same day at the LDS South Chapel in Blanding, Utah. Interment will follow in the Blanding Cemetery.
