Duane Walter "Curly" Lords, 91, of Idaho Falls, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, at Pinebrook Assisted Living Center of Idaho Falls. He was under the care of Hands of Hope Hospice. He was born Jan. 3, 1921, to Robert John Lords and Lillian Mae Bowcutt Lords. He grew up in the Idaho Falls-Lincoln area. In 1939, he graduated from Bonneville High School. He attended technical school for auto body repair in Salt Lake City. Duane served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the South Pacific. On Sept. 25, 1945, he married Zenda Harrison in Huntington, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized May 28, 1954, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Duane worked for Smith Chevrolet for 42 years and as an escort for the INEL. He spent most of his life in Idaho Falls. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served as an executive secretary, Young Men's and Sunday School president, ward clerk, High Priest group leader, scout leader and many other callings. Duane enjoyed family activities, fishing, hunting, camping, fly tying and was a member of a bowling league for several years. He loved to tell stories and he enjoyed people of all walks of life. He is survived by his wife, Zenda Lords of Idaho Falls; daughters, Lillian Kay (John, deceased) Haley of West Valley, Utah, and Diane Bezold of Idaho Falls; sons, Allen D. (Chris) Lords and Mark (Tami) Lords, both of Idaho Falls; 36 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Duane was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Burdett Lords, Richard Lords and Robert Farrar; sisters, Beth Ball and Joy Nelson; and a grandson, Devin Bezold. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Idaho Falls LDS 18th Ward, 1200 Dunbar Drive, with Bishop Cloyd Jones officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St. in Idaho Falls, and Saturday one hour prior to services at the church.
