Obituary

Duane Glenn Sibbett, surrounded by his loving family returned to his heavenly home and the love of his life on December 27, 2013. Duane was born April 10, 1931 in Thayne, WY to Glenn & Nellie Sibbett. He was the oldest of 6 children. Duane's childhood was filled with love, laughter, and adventure, both on and off the farms, he grew up on. Tragically, when Duane was 8, he lost his little brother Jimmy and while he knew one day he would see him again, the loss was something he always carried with him. What a joyous reunion he must have had when he was able to see Jimmy again. Duane graduated from Star Valley High school in 1949. He met Donna Bruce, the love of his life during his years there. In 1952, he was drafted into the Army and answered the call to serve in the Korean War. After learning of his upcoming departure to Germany, he promptly proposed to Donna and they were married before he went off to boot camp. Donna and Duane were sealed for time and all eternity on June 13, 1952 and spent the next 58 years as constant companions. Duane was devoted to Donna and cared for her with love, devotion and a tenderness that will never be forgotten. Duane served from October 1952-September 1954 in the United States Army while fighting in the Korean War. He was stationed in Munich, Germany and we loved hearing the stories and seeing the pictures from that time in his life. As with everything Duane did, he served with honor. Duane returned from his service into the military and he and Donna settled in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He went to work for the gas company and met many wonderful people that he still considers friends. In 1960, he joined the Idaho Falls Police Department and became one of Idaho Falls Finest. He spent many years working with IFPD and loved every moment of it. He was a man that lived by a code of ethics and honor and was respected by everyone he worked with. He retired in 1992 after 32 years of service. Duane was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. He instilled this love into all of us. He spent many years teaching his sons to hunt, fish and appreciate all the beauty of nature. Even as he aged, he would still attend hunting trips with his sons and grandsons. He would stay in camp to be the chief cook, tell stories of his own (successful) hunting outings, and tell them what they needed to do to fill their tags. Even this year he said that they needed to take him with them so he could "show them how to hunt." He loved spending that time with his sons and grandsons and those memories will be forever cherished. Donna and Duane had five children: Hal, Kim, Jan, Shalee and Trinett. Their love for us was unconditional and never ending. Duane had a deep testimony of the Gospel and taught us by his example what it truly meant to have love for his fellow men, live with honestly and integrity and the true meaning of humility and service. Duane loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His eyes would light up and twinkle when he saw them. His lap was always a source of comfort, love, and giggles when it was filled with a little one. Duane is preceded in death by his loving wife, Donna Bruce Sibbett, his parents Glenn & Nellie Sibbett, & his brother, Jimmy Sibbett. He is survived by his children Hal (Janet) Sibbett, Kim (Jill) Sibbett, Jan (Annette) Sibbett, Shalee (David) Claiborne, and Trinett (Dale) Johnson, 24 grandchildren, and 23 great grand children. Dad was always there for us in both body and spirit, showing us by his example what it was like to be a father and a loving husband. He was selfless with us all. Dad loved us all more than he loved himself. When it became too hard for him to live on, the pain that was the greatest for him was never his own, but rather the pain that he saw in us. Dad always let us know how much we were loved and how much he wanted us to have the lives he envisioned us to have. That is the greatest gift that a father can give to his family. We will always love you and we will always miss you.
