Earl S. Owens, 85, of Iona, died Saturday, June 12, 2010, at his home. He was born Feb. 28, 1925 in Lincoln, Idaho to Alma LaGrande and Sarah Ellen Steele Owens. He grew up and attended schools in Iona graduating from Iona High School in 1943. Earl worked with his family on the family farm then he joined the U.S. Navy and served his country during World War II. Following the war he came home and attended Ricks College where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science with several certificates in education. On Dec. 31, 1949 he married Vera Loree Evans in Idaho Falls. Vera died in 2007. Earl was a school teacher. He also sold text books to various schools throughout Idaho. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family, He enjoyed sports, and discussing politics. He loved all kinds of music, and Sunday afternoon rides, and going to morning coffee with his friends. When school let out for summer vacation he would take his family to New Mexico to work in the oil fields and spend time with his in-laws Loree and Winnie Evans Earl is survived by his son Robert "Bob" (Fay) Owens of Eunice New Mexico; 2 daughters, Judy (Dennis) Daw of Osgood, ID, and Kathie (Sam) Ellis of Idaho Falls; 4 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at the Iona LDS 3rd Ward Chapel 5169 E. Denning with Bishop David Schwieder officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Tuesday June 14, 2010 at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St. Idaho Falls, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Iona Cemetery where military rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team and the Idaho Military Honor Guard.
