IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Edna Wetzel
Anderson
July 16, 1921 – February 29, 2016
Edna Wetzel Anderson, a longtime resident of Ammon, Idaho, died Monday February 29, 2016 at the age of 94. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She will be greatly missed.
Edna was born on July 16, 1921 at her Grandmother Williams' house in Ammon. She was the fifth child of Elizabeth Denning Williams and Charles Taylor W Wetzel. She had three sisters, Blanche and Bernice (twins), Therma (who died at six months) and one brother, Harold.
She married Alton Anderson on April 19, 1944 in the LDS Salt Lake Temple. Her lifelong job became wife, homemaker and soon mother. In the ensuing years she and Alton had 8 children, 4 boys and 4 girls.
Since Edna married a farmer, she helped out with the farm. Alton was a partner in a sheep herd with his father. Edna took on the job of raising the "bum" lambs, going out at all hours to feed them with the bottle. Even when Alton sold the sheep she still raised the lambs. She loved to go up to the sheep range and live in the sheep camp with Alton for a few days when they relieved the shepherd.
Edna was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings including Blazer leader in Primary and latter as a counselor in the Primary presidency, visiting teacher, cooking leader and various callings in Relief Society. One that developed a lifelong passion was her calling as quilting coordinator. She did not feel adequate when she received this calling but learned to love it and went on to make quilts for all of her children and grandchildren. Each grandchild looked forward to seeing the beautiful quilt that she created for them when they were married.
Edna was the heart of her home. While her husband Alton was gone from the home for his various responsibilities, Edna was always there caring for and nurturing her family. As the family grew she often went to help when her grandchildren were born. When all of their children were gone from the home, Edna and her husband gathered their friends who were in the same situation and met for family home evening every Monday. They treasured these friendships.
Edna is survived by her children RoseMarie (Tom, deceased) Fallon , Shiela (Jim) Ritchie, Jean (Jim) Cox, Alton (Dena) Anderson, Don (Lorie) Anderson, Nancy (Don) Wood, Robert (Lisa) Anderson, and Dan (Lynn) Anderson. There are also 40 grandchildren, 83 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; a brother, 3 sisters; a great-grandson, Jason, and a great-great-grandson, Wyatt.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2016 at the Blackhawk LDS Chapel, 7118 S. Ledgerock Dr. Ammon, with Bishop Spencer Allison of the Ammon 28th Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2016 at Coltrin Mortuary and Saturday at the church one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery.
