Obituary

Elaine Hanson Getsinger, 85, of Iona, passed away peacefully Sunday, November 4th, 2012, at the home of her youngest daughter, Marilyn Danielson, in Shelley, Idaho. She was surrounded by several of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren at the time of her death. She was born the third of five children on August 2nd, 1927, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Lee Hanson and Ila Kinghorn Hanson of Rigby, Idaho. She was raised in Rigby, Idaho, where she attended primary school. As an adult, she went back to school to complete her secondary education. On August 11th, 1947, she married Boyd L. Getsinger. They raised six children together in Iona, Idaho: Nolan Boyd (Olga) Getsinger of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Sondra (Lynn, deceased) Smith of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Patricia (Dave) Leppert of Boise, Idaho; Kevin (Karen) Getsinger of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Kim (Marcella) Getsinger of Iona, Idaho; and Marilyn (Jimmy) Danielson of Shelley, Idaho. They had sixteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Iona, 2nd Ward and was active with DUPDaughters of the Utah Pioneers. She also loved car rides, landscape painting, collecting recipes, dancing, humming tunes, kissing babies, eating candy, looking at the fireplace, and twisting her hair. One of her favorite pastimes was looking out of her picture window at the smoking chimneys of the neighborhood. She was famous in the family for serving homemade cakes with one corner missing. And the family swears she made Mrs. Powell's cinnamon rolls before Mrs. Powell. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Ila Hanson; her husband, Boyd Getsinger; and her brother, Darrell Hanson. She is survived by her older sister, Lou Jean Howe, of Rigby, Idaho; her younger sister, LaWana Rainey, of Graybull, Wyoming; and her younger brother, Kent Hanson, of Billings, Montana. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to those who contributed to her care, especially Monica Bessire, head nurse at Aspen Home Health & Hospice, for her guidance and support. A family tribute and celebration of Elaine's life will take place at a later date, to be announced.
