IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elaine Thornock
Parker
July 28, 1923 – January 28, 2007
She was born in Rigby, Idaho, on July 28, 1923, to Seymour Hyrum Thornock and Janet Leishman Moffat Thornock, the 5th of 7 children. She had two older sisters, Beth Orr and Dot Crook, and four brothers, Delos, Verl, Dale, and Jay Thornock. She lived in Rigby, Antelope, Darlington, Moore, Pocatello, Salt Lake City (during part of World War II) and Idaho Falls. She graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1941.
She married Joseph Fred Parker on Oct. 1, 1941, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Mom helped in the family business, Sports Car Sales, Inc., plus did sewing and alterations in her home to supplement the family income. She loved sewing and made her daughters' and many of her granddaughters' wedding dresses.
In 1970, Mom began volunteering at the LDS Hospital and later at EIRMC as a Pink Lady, which she was doing up to the time of her death. She volunteered over 11,000 hours. She loved her work as a volunteer, her co-workers, and the people she served.
Mom and Dad retired in 1981, went on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Ireland, and later served two stake missions, and a family history mission. At the time of her death, Mom was actively serving as a ward missionary. She served many years with the youth. For over 25 years, she served as a sports and camp director.
Our family built a cabin in Island Park where we have spent many hours of fishing, campfire programs, and family fun. Mom loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; she was always there to support her family in everything they did. She was a remarkable woman, and has blessed many lives with her love, concern, and service.
Mom is survived by her five children: J. Thomas (Senia Weinrich) Parker; J. Bruce (Sharon) Parker; Jean (Lee) Staker; Dennis K. (LeeAnn) Parker; Susan (Dale) Olson; 25 grandchildren and 71 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dot (Everett) Crook.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Fred Parker; a granddaughter, Michele Parker; a grandson, Allyn Olson; a great-granddaughter, Julianne Staker; a sister, and four brothers.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 3, 2007, at the Idaho Falls LDS North Stake, 955 Memorial Drive, Idaho Falls with Bishop Clint Francis officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday, February 2, 2007 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St. Idaho Falls, and at the church one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in the Rexburg cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the EIRMC Auxiliary volunteer office in care of Rita Swenson, P.O. Box 2077, Idaho Falls, ID 83403-2077.
With love and affection, your children.
