Obituary

Elmer Smith, 87 of Idaho Falls died February 20, 2007 at the Gables of Ammon Assisted Living Center.

He was born March 28, 1919, in Sterling, Idaho to John and Anna Nielsen Smith the seventh of eleven children. He grew up in Sterling and Sandy, Utah.

On June 1, 1942, he married Thelma Irene Harris in Salt Lake City, Utah. They were later divorced. He farmed in the Sterling area and then worked for the Union Pacific Railroad in Pocatello, Idaho as a Car-man welder. He resided in Pocatello, American Falls and later in Idaho Falls.

He was a happy, fun-loving and colorful person who loved to work with metal folk art, dance, fish and make people laugh; Elmer will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Survivors include his daughter, Ranae Walker (Jerald) of Idaho Falls, Idaho; sons, Larry Smith (Dorothy) of Boise, Idaho, Terrell Smith (Katherine) of Shelley, Idaho; siblings, Margaret Yansky of Saint George, Utah, Louise Voeltz (Chick) of Centerville, Utah, Sherman Smith (Vesta) of Sterling, Idaho, and Dale Smith of Murray, Utah; 15 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter (Sharon); 3 sisters and 3 brothers.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 26 at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls. The family will visit with friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Coltrin Mortuary. Interment will be at the Grove City Cemetery in Blackfoot, Idaho.
