IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elna C.
Marlow
April 29, 1917 – March 9, 2016
Elna C. Marlow, 98, of Idaho Falls passed away March 9, 2016, at Lincoln Court in Idaho Falls. She was under the care of One Source Hospice.
Elna was born on April 29, 1917, in Centerville, Utah, to Sidney and Amy Irene Ford Call. She attended first grade in Chesterfield, Idaho, and then moved to Wapello and graduated from Firth High School in 1935.
On November 10, 1936, she married Wilburn E. Marlow in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Wilburn's first wife died leaving him with four children, when Elna married she took on a family. They made their home on the farm in Wapello. Wilburn and Elna had five more children.
Elna was a very industrious person, working beside her husband on the farm. She always had a garden and raspberries. She loved working the soil, seeing plants grow. Whether they were flowers or things to eat. She picked and sold raspberries for years, those plants were her pride and joy. When she would get tired of picking raspberries she would rest by getting on her lawn mower and mowing her acre of lawn.
She also worked at the Bingham County Clerk's office as a deputy clerk for many years. She went to night school and received a bachelor's degree in education and taught at Groveland and Wapello elementary schools. She loved her third grade students.
Elna made all of her own clothes and her children's clothes. She also loved to do counted cross stitch. But in 2001, a virus damaged her eyesight so that she couldn't do the hand work that she loved. She then moved to Idaho Falls to be closer to her daughter. She always seemed to deal with the problems that came her way. Her motto was "adapt and endure".
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held several positions in her stake and ward. She especially loved teaching and leading music. She loved the LDS Hymns because she felt that each hymn had a special message for her.
She is survived by a brother, Ford (Carol) Call; her children: Wilma Lou Carlson, of Downey, California, Forrest Marlow, and Dennis (Mary Jo) Marlow, both of Blackfoot, Idaho, David (Nancy) Marlow, and Ruth Ann (Kraig) Gold, both of Idaho Falls, Idaho; 23 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband who died on March 7, 1981; her parents; her sisters: Geneal, Emma Jean, and Amy; a daughter, Gayleen Jensen; step-daughter, Marjorie Kimbrel; two step-sons: Ronald and Don Marlow; half-brother, Monte Call, one granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 12 Noon, Monday, March 14, 2016, at the LDS Chapel in Wapello. A viewing will be held from 5-7:00 p.m., Sunday at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls, and Monday at 10 a.m., until time of services at the church. Burial will be at Grove City Cemetery.
