Obituary

Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend Elwood D Wilson of Ammon, Idaho (formerly of Rigby, Idaho), passed away in his home in the early morning hours of Sunday, November 17, 2019, after fighting a valiant battle with cancer.  He was 87 years old.

He was born February 8, 1932, in Burley, Idaho to Parley Raymond Wilson and Harriet Leone Church.  He was the second of 4 children.  He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Northwestern States Mission.

Elwood attended Brigham Young University, where he met his eternal sweetheart, Kathleen Brown.  She passed away on February 4, 2017.

After meeting Kathleen, he served in the Armed Forces in the Army.  He served in the Korean War and was stationed in Japan.  He and Kathleen became engaged to be married while he was serving overseas and he sent her the engagement ring from Japan. They were married on December 20, 1955, in the Mesa, Arizona Temple.

After he and Kathleen married, they settled in Arizona. He attended Arizona State University, where he received both bachelor's and master's degrees of Education.  He began his teaching career in Scottsdale, Arizona. In 1974 Elwood accepted the opportunity to become an Elementary School principal and moved his family to Fredonia, Arizona.  While there, he became a Superintendent of schools.  Always an Idaho boy at heart, he took the opportunity to move to Rigby, Idaho in 1983 when he became the Superintendent of Schools for Jefferson County School District 251.  Dad was an honest and hard worker and provided well for his family and taught them many wonderful lessons by his good example.

Elwood dedicated his life to serving others through education and church service.  Many of his church assignments involved serving youth and young adults.  He also served as a Bishop and on the High Council.  He and Kathleen served together in the Texas Houston Mission.

He and Kathleen were blessed with 9 children and he is survived by all of them: Lee (Leanne) Wilson of Twin Falls, Idaho, Craig (Del Reanne) Wilson of Draper, Utah, Sarah (Wendell) Hintze of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Scott (Miranda) Wilson of Cedar Hills, Utah, Brent (Laura) Wilson of Golden, Colorado, Mark Wilson of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Michael (Janet) Wilson of Afton, Wyoming, George (Diana) Wilson of Rexburg, Idaho, Christine Wilson of Ammon, Idaho; 28 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; and his siblings: Garth (Carol) Wilson of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Roger (Susan) Wilson of Logan, Utah.
