IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Emery Lowe
Wiser
October 27, 1925 – September 30, 2017
Emery Lowe Wiser, of Idaho Falls, passed away at home on Saturday, September 30, 2017. He began his good life nearly 92 years ago on October 27, 1925, in Franklin, ID as the oldest child of Cliff and Leona Wiser. Growing up years were spent in Trenton, Utah on the family farm during a time the world was entangled in World War II. He was busy with hard work, making do, developing determination, patriotism, and a belief in the American Dream. Emery's days were filled with farm duties, family, church, sports and music--always music. As a child, Emery was often asked to sing "I Am a Mormon Boy." He sang in a quartet on the radio when he was twelve. As an adult Emery was the preferred guest soloist at church meetings, weddings and funerals. "O Divine Redeemer" was a memorable favorite. He performed often with his father and jumped at the chance to play his one memorized tune on the piano—a full keyboard enthusiastic rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner."
While attending North Cache High School, he met Aliene Thain. Even in the midst of rationing, they discovered no shortage of great times – winter sleigh rides, dances and double dates with their best friends, Myrna and Judd. Aliene fell for the twinkle in those blue eyes, his rich lead voice and his big dreams. Emery was heard to say on many occasions that Aliene was his only girl and the love of his life. After high school he joined the US Navy and sailed around the oceans of the world as a Gunners Mate on the "USS Atlantic Coast." Emery never experienced motion sickness: he loved the ocean and the motion of the great ship. Emery and Aliene were married on May 16, 1945 in the LDS Logan Temple beginning their 72-year adventure which included moving their household 17 times!
As a couple they worked on the Trenton farm for ten years before packing up a growing family and moving to homestead their own sagebrush-covered ground in Washington State. Emery excelled at happily working with a shovel in his hand (usually Aliene's favorite that he had stolen!) and a tune on his lips—and always optimistic in the midst of bad luck and breakdowns.
Emery readily served in church callings including as a Bishop (twice); teaching anytime and everywhere; directing choirs; missionary work; and collecting countless friends, most who have gone before him; and performing with his beloved barbershop quartet, The Gem State Four.
Emery loved flying. He had no fear. One time he landed his plane upside down with his good friend, Neil in the passenger seat.
Emery changed careers to sales and was found quoting his many self-help heroes. His favorite quote was: "Today is the first day of the rest of your life!" However, he was not successful at making his millions or keeping the cows in the fence! "Just stand here and put your arms out like this. They're more afraid of you than you are of them." (advice to a naive daughter!) Emery's children were blessed with valuable lessons passed on from their farmer-turned-salesman father. Among them were...work, love of America, look to the Savior for redemption; always have hope.
Emery is survived by his wife, Aliene; a sister, Carma; a brother, John; 3 daughters, Shauna, MaChel and DeLaine; and a family tree full of 19 grandbabies and 47 great grandbabies. Emery was preceded in death by his only son, Thayne, who was the first missionary since the Apostle Paul to preach in Rome.
