Obituary

Erma Boyce Baird, 99, of Idaho Falls, passed away peacefully Sept. 5, 2010, at Mt. Vernon Assisted Living Center. She was born June 25, 1911, in Dragon, Uintah County, Utah, to W. Lawrence and Sarah "Sadie" Kirkham Workman. She was raised in Preston, Idaho, and received awards for never missing a day of school in 12 years. In 1936, she married Arthur M. Boyce in Logan, Utah. They moved to Idaho Falls and she lived over 65 years in the home that she and Art built. In 1950, he passed away of a sudden illness. Erma was sealed to Art and her 5 children for time and eternity in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple in 1951. She married Roland F. Baird in the Hawaii LDS Temple in 1969. He passed away in 1994. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and she served in various ward and stake leadership positions. She and Roland served a mission in Roanoke, Virginia from 1975-1976. She was a homemaker and business woman. Erma enjoyed gardening, crocheting, cooking, Indian lore, spending time at the family cabin in Island Park and traveling, including around the world cruise with Roland. Erma was known for her kindness, generosity, and service to others, but her most cherished role was that of loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her children: William (Laurel) Boyce, Bonnie (Francis) Bybee, Max (Jan) Boyce, Dean (Donna) Boyce, and Renae Sterzick all of Idaho Falls; step-children: Art (Luann) Baird, Bruce (Harleen) Baird, Charlotte Baird, Michael (Patsy) Baird, and Rick (Karen) Baird; 43 grandchildren, 98 great-grandchildren, 25 great-great-grandchildren, a sister, Donna Goaslind of Kaysville, Utah, and a sister-in-law, Hope Workman of Salt Lake City, Utah. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Inez Workman; a brother, Duane Workman, and husbands, Art and Roland. Funeral services will be 12:00 Noon, Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls, Idaho. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday September 10, 2010, at Coltrin Mortuary and one hour prior to the services at the mortuary on Saturday. Burial will be in the Fielding Memorial Cemetery. Erma's family would like to thank the staff at Mt. Vernon Living Center for their kind and loving care of our mother.
