Erna Huber, 87, of Idaho Falls and formerly of South Dakota, died September 26, 2012, at Turtle and Crane Assisted Living in Idaho Falls. She was under the compassionate care of Hands of Hope Hospice, her family, and the loving staff at Turtle and Crane. She was born March 23, 1925, in Hosmer, South Dakota, to Rudolph and Maria Walth Hieb. She attended country schools, high school in Hosmer, eventually earning her bachelor's degree in education from Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen, South Dakota. On May 18, 1947, she married Randolph Huber in Hosmer. They lived for 50 years in Roscoe, South Dakota, before moving to Idaho Falls in 1998 to be near their children. She taught elementary school for 39 years, starting her career teaching in one-room country schools. Eventually she moved to the city' school in Roscoe, finishing her career as a kindergarten teacher. She was a devoted teacher, beloved by the hundreds of students who were fortunate to have her as their teacher. She was a hard worker, keeping her home spotless, while raising her family and working fulltime in her career, long before that became popular. In her spare time she enjoyed traveling, doing ceramics and crafts, dancing to her husband's big band music, playing cards and bingo, and refinishing antique furniture. She had many life-long friends and cherished them deeply. Her greatest joy was spending time with her five grandchildren. She was a lifetime member of the Lutheran Church, continuing her membership at Hope Lutheran Church upon her move to Idaho Falls. She is survived by two daughters, Sandra (Tim) Thie, and Carol (DeRay) Perry, of Idaho Falls, and five grandchildren, Darcy Aslett, Andrew Thie, Mack Perry, Marissa Perry, and Lukas Perry; two sisters, Leontina Morlock of Aberdeen, South Dakota, and Helen Satmary of Brea, California, and one brother, Harry Hieb of Rapid City, South Dakota. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 9 brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 1, 2012, at Coltrin Mortuary with Pastor Ryan Barnes officiating. The family will visit with friends on Sunday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 1st Street, Idaho Falls. Burial will be at Ammon Cemetery.
