Julia Fern McMurtrey, 91, of Rigby, died January 13, 2010, at her daughter's home. She was born December 19, 1918, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to James Monroe Brown and Edna Geneva Fox Brown. She was a lifetime resident of Idaho Falls and the surrounding areas. On November 24, 1934, she married Robert M. McMurtrey in Idaho Falls. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They were married over 50 years before Robert passed away Aug. 11, 1985. Following their marriage, they lived at Antelope Flats where they ran a dry farm. They farmed and raised livestock in Grant. She worked for the Idaho Potato Growers. They later moved to Grant where she lived from 1972-2000. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was involved in the Relief Society including being a visiting teaching supervisor. She enjoyed fishing, painting, gardening, shopping, traveling, carpentry, and she was a collector of many things. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother; she was a self starter with a wonderful sense of humor. She is survived by the following: daughters: Joan Murphy of Elma, Washington; Blanche Nield of Idaho Falls, and Judy Price of Rigby; son, Kay L. (Gayla) McMurtrey of Idaho Falls; daughter-in-law, Bonnie McMurtrey of Idaho Falls; 37 grandchildren; 95 great-grandchildren; 62 great-great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ann E. Thomson of Idaho Falls. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Patty; a son, Robert "Bob"; 3 sons-in-law, 2 grandsons, a granddaughter, and 2 great-granddaughters. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 18, 2010, at Coltrin Mortuary with Thomas Baird officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Sunday, January 17, 2010, and Monday one hour prior to the services both at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls.
