Obituary

Frances Elizabeth Hamm, 98, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, died Tuesday, November 23, 2010, of natural causes. She was born April 11, 1912, in Linnton, Oregon, to Harry G. Walling and Bessie F. Kauffman Walling. She grew up in Portland and in 1930, she graduated from Grant High School. Frances continued her education at Northwestern Business College from 1930-1932. On January 23, 1938, she married Edward Hamm in Portland, Oregon. They lived in Seattle, Washington, for the first two years of their marriage. They moved back to Portland where they lived until 1976 and then they moved to King City, Tigard, Oregon. It was there that Ed passed away April 9, 1983. Frances continued living in King City until 2000 and then she moved to Idaho Falls to be closer to her family. Frances worked for Consolidated Freightways Trucking Corporation as a bookkeeper and in the accounting department until her children were born. While living in Tigard, she was a member of the Calvin Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Rose City Garden Club, Friendship Masonic Lodge #1, King City Travel Club, King City Art Club, and she was also a Girl Scout Leader. Frances enjoyed reading, painting, playing Bingo and Pinochle, and traveling internationally. She is survived by the following: daughter, Nancy (Kenneth) Henry of Idaho Falls; son, Dr. John (Mary Anne) Hamm of Seattle, Washington; sister, Jeanne "Hazel" Cross of Lakewood, California; 3 granddaughters: Natalie (Nick) Blackburn of Santa Cruz, California; Kathryn Erickson of Idaho Falls; and Laura (Matt) White of Bothell, Washington, and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Richard Walling. Private family services will be held in Portland at the Portland Memorial Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the "Frances Hamm Tree Donation" in care of the City of Idaho Falls; Attn: Parks & Recreation Administration; P.O.
