Obituary

Frances Arlene Briggs Hubble, 91, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away on Monday, February 3, 2025, in North Ogden, Utah.  She was born on September 28, 1933, to Francis Leland Briggs and Mina Alwilda Jensen Briggs in Rigby, Idaho.

Arlene was raised and educated in Rigby, Idaho, along with her three sisters.  She learned to drive her father's 1937 Farmall Cub tractor at a tender age and she called herself his right-hand man. In her teenage years, she worked at Idaho Drug serving ice cream and sandwiches.  Arlene was a skilled bookkeeper, an excellent typist and 10-key operator.  She encouraged her children to develop employable skills so they could always provide for themselves.

Arlene met Harold James Hubble "Jim", and they were married on February 17, 1956, in Idaho Falls.  During his career in the United States Navy, they lived in Connecticut, Virginia, South Carolina, and Idaho Falls.

All the relatives loved coming for holidays to Jim and Arlene's house.  They were wonderful hosts and made delicious meals, all from scratch.  Arlene said that Jim taught her how to cook, and together they provided many, many wonderful meals for their family and friends. She was an excellent baker and loved making cakes and pies and having her freezer stocked with cookies.  If company stopped by, she was always prepared.

Even though she didn't love it, Arlene was a skilled seamstress and made clothing for her children for all occasions, including many beautiful prom dresses and dance costumes.  She used to joke that she would probably be hemming one of the girls' wedding dresses as they were walking down the aisle.

Jim and Arlene loved camping and quickly graduated from a one-time tent excursion to purchase a lovely camp trailer for the family to enjoy.  They took the family camping every chance they got, providing many fun times with lots of fishing and swimming.  As empty nesters, they loved being snowbirds, spending winters in Las Vegas, Nevada.  They also loved going to Island Park, Idaho, and the Oregon Coast.  They truly enjoyed this time in their lives and made many lifelong friends along the way.

Arlene loved and took special care of her parents in their aging years, always making sure they had everything they needed. She loved her neighborhood and had wonderful friends throughout the time she lived there.  She grew magnificent flowers and enjoyed making her yard and home beautiful.

Arlene is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister, Carol Marie Smart, brothers-in-law Richard Olson and Cris Crismon, and one great-granddaughter, Mina Grace Skinner.

She is survived by her sisters: Beverly Olson and Shirley Crismon; her children: Wade Hubble of Spokane, Washington, Carolyn Skinner (Steve) Bothwel of Utah, Marsha Gaytko (George) of Lake Jackson, Texas, and Diane Hubble (Leroy Lange) of Idaho Falls, Idaho; six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.
