Obituary

Frank Talmage Butler, 97, of Ammon, died Thursday, July 16, 2009, at the Gables of Shelley.

He was born February 10, 1912, in Manard, Camas County, Idaho, to Horace Calvin Butler and Ida Rebecca Goold Butler. When he was only a few years old, the family moved to Acequia, north of Rupert, where he was raised and attended school. In 1931, he graduated from Acequia High School.

Following graduation, he went to work on his uncle's ranch in Chinook, Montana, doing ranch and farm work. It was here that he met his future wife, Eudora Swenson. They were married on Feb. 2, 1935, in Chinook and on June 12, 1935, their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.

For a number of years, Frank worked as a carpenter in the summer months and during the winter, he would work in the sugar factory either in Rupert or Chinnok. During World War II, he worked as a ship-fitter in Richmond, California, in the Kaiser ship yards from 1942-1945.

He continued his work as a carpenter and in 1949, with the building of the AEC Site (now INL) and the construction boom, Frank and Eudora moved to Ammon. It was here Frank resided until 2 months ago when he moved to the Gables in Shelley.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and among the callings he held were scout leader, dance director, youth leader, and stake missionary.

He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Union #808. He enjoyed snowmobiling, spending time at the cabin at Palisades, attending his grandchildren's ball games, plays and other activities. He was proud of the fact that he built both his home in Ammon and cabin at Palisades. Horses were also a huge part of his life as was his vegetable and flower gardens.

Frank was a soft spoken, hardworking, honest man who had a great love of the outdoors.

He is survived by the following: son, Frank A. (Linda) Butler of Deer Park, Washington; daughter, Sherma J. (Ray) Carlson of Blackfoot; daughter, Margie Lou (Ken) Waldron, currently serving an LDS Mission in Independence, Missouri; son, Keven S. (Sandy) Butler of Rigby; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, Richard Max Butler; a grandson, Allan Butler; a great grandson, Shay Jensen; and a great granddaughter, Lucie Jensen.
