Franklin Owen Ricks, 80, of Idaho Falls passed away at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center surround by loved ones on Sunday, May 14, 2017. He died of bleeding in the brain.
Franklin was born September 23, 1936 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Owen Winford and Sadie Ina Jacobs Ricks. He was the youngest child with five older doting sisters; Alice, Pearl, Donna, Dorothy and Mona.
Franklin grew up in Idaho Falls and attended Idaho Falls High School where he participated in track and Field and Football.
In 1956 he joined the United States Army and served in France for three years. He loved to talk about the beautiful places he visited as he traveled across Europe on his motor scooter.
Ten days after he returned from France he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Angeline Bush in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
Franklin worked at a variety of jobs through the years; Green House Worker, Armored Car Driver, Chief of Police in Ammon, Sugar Factory Worker, Electrician, and finally a custodian in the Idaho Falls Temple.
Frank had a beautiful tenor singing voice and loved playing the guitar, traveling to the ocean, making driftwood lamps and tables, woodworking, visiting his relatives and being with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He loved attending every program or sport they were involved in and being their number one fan!
Franklin is survived by two brothers in law, Harold Christensen of Rock Springs, Wyoming and Merrill Butikofer from Coltman, Idaho, his four children; Carrie Birch of Shelley, Troy Ricks of Idaho Falls, Sally (William) Lewis of Ucon, Kristie(Kim) Thompson of Twin Falls, Nineteen Perfect Grandchildren and 35 Adorable Great Grandchildren.
He was proceeded in death by his parents; Owen and Sadie Ina Ricks, his sisters; Alice (Harold) Christensen of Rock Springs, WYO, Pearl and Myron Davenport of Idaho Falls, Donna (Merrill) Butikofer of Coltman, Dorothy and Dan Frank of Idaho Falls, Mona and Ben Frei of Idaho Falls, A son in law Brad Birch of Shelley, a daughter in law Marsha Ricks of Idaho Falls, a Grandson Bradley Birch of Shelley and a Great Grandson Michael Weaver of Idaho Falls.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, May 20 at the Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls, Idaho. The family will meet with friends from seven to nine, Friday, May 19, 2017 also at Coltrin Mortuary and one hour prior to the funeral. Interment will be in the Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery, South Yellowstone Highway, Idaho Falls, Idaho.
