Frederick (Fred) Keith Swanson, 77, of Idaho Falls, peacefully passed away at his home on Monday, April 25, 2022. He was under the care of Encompass Home Health and Hospice.

Fred was born on April 29, 1944, in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Cleveland Frederick Swanson and Eleanore Eardley Swanson. Fred grew up in Idaho Falls and graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1962.

In July 1967, Fred married Phyllis Marie Hougen in Idaho Falls, and they were later divorced. They had two children together, Marc Swanson & Brandi (Swanson) Day.

During high school, Fred got a job at Safeway. He continued to work for them after he married and was drafted into the service. He served in the 116 ^th regiment of the National Guard where he was stationed in Vietnam.  He was discharged after being wounded by enemy artillery fire and sent home after being awarded the Purple Heart Medal.  When he came home from Vietnam he went back to work for Safeway and worked for them until the stores in this area closed. He then worked for Payless Drug store until he retired in 2009.

Fred was an avid fisherman who loved the outdoors. He would oftentimes take his children Marc and Brandi fishing but they would soon want to go home and his famous one-liner to them was always "Just one more cast".  Fred also enjoyed oil painting and had a love of American Indian History; he especially loved painting Indian Historical figures such as Chief Joseph.  Fred had a love of books and was an avid reader of Stephen King, Ivan Doig, and Louis Lamour.  Fred loved spending time with his family and friends. He will truly be missed by his friends and family.

Fred is survived by his son, Marc (Sandy) Swanson of Billings, Montana; his daughter, Brandi (Kevin) Day of Idaho Falls, Idaho; five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; his sisters: Vera Gillespie of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Dolores Rapattoni of Santa Cruz, California, Marilyn Marcelo of Idaho Falls, Idaho,  Mary Swanson of Seattle, Washington, and Wendy Swanson of Boise, Idaho; and his brother, David (Diane) Swanson of Richmond, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Cleveland and Eleanore Swanson; Brothers-in-law: Ralph Repattoni, Richard Gillespie, and Severino Marcelo.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 30, 2022, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to www.coltrinmortuary.com .
