IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Garn
Ray
January 10, 1946 – December 19, 2022
Garn Leonard Ray, 76, of Idaho Falls, passed away surrounded by loving family on December 19, 2022, at the Homestead in Rexburg Idaho. He was under the care of Homestead Home Hospice due to kidney failure.
Garn was born January 10, 1946, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Hyrum Leonard Ray and Beth Leona Garn. At the age of 19, he met his first wife, Marja Lou Peters, while playing basketball. They quickly fell in love and got married in Salt Lake City, Utah on July 16, 1965. In Salt Lake City they welcomed their three beloved children: Roger Ray, Brent Ray, and Brenda Hauser. In 1973, they moved to Idaho Falls and began working for Kepler Realty. The challenges of life challenged his marriage to Marja and they divorced in 1981.
After years of hard work at Kepler, he became a foreman for Idahoan Foods in Idaho Falls working the swing shift. He was always known to be great at woodworking, construction, and fabrication. He took pride in his home which he built with his own hands back in the 1970s.
In 1984, he met Marilyn Butler at a church dance which began their lifelong marriage. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple on June 5, 2004.
Garn loved the outdoors. He spent many winters riding snowmobiles and the summertime camping in the greater parts of Idaho.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn Ray of 38 years; his three children: Roger and Becky Ray of Nevada, Brent and Evelyn Ray of Idaho, and Brenda and Ron Hauser of Utah; his four stepchildren: Linda Alder of Utah, Mike and Shara Heuer of Arizona, Lori Dimick of Idaho, and Gregory and Johana Heuer of Colorado; 21 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren with two on the way.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 7, 2023, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 10854 N 41 E., Ucon. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m.-12:45 p.m., prior to the services. Interment will be in the Ucon Cemetery under the direction of Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls.
