Obituary

Garth Lucas Clinger, 83, of Shelley, died unexpectedly on his farm doing what he loved on Wednesday, May 3, 2017.

He was born March 7, 1934, in Blackfoot, Idaho to Albert William Clinger and Eva Lucas Clinger.  He was the middle of three sons and attended schools in Rexburg and Shelley.

He served an LDS mission to the Netherlands Mission from 1954 to 1957.

On August 29, 1957, he married his eternal companion, LaRae King, in the Idaho Falls Temple.   They were married for close to 60 years. They are the parents of four children:  Garla, Lorin, Charla and Kent.

Garth received his Bachelor Degree of Science from Utah State University.  He taught shop and social studies at Ammon Junior High through 1976.   He farmed with his father Albert, his brother John, and son Lorin.   He loved working the dirt and watching the plants grow.

Garth's testimony of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and time with his family were most important to him.   One of his favorite church callings was serving as a stake missionary.   He loved serving with the full-time missionaries.

Garth's talents brought him happiness in the woodshop, indexing, and farming.  He loved snuggling with his grandchildren and watching old movies.  Garth will always be known for being a hard worker, ambitious, and his generous heart.

He had a great passion for farming and conserving resources for generations.  He served on the North Bingham Soil Conservation board for 48 years.

He is survived by his wife, LaRae Clinger, and his children: Garla and Kent Huntsman, of Herriman, Utah, Lorin and Sherri Clinger, of Shelley, Idaho, Charla and Lance Oviatt , of Afton, Wyoming, and Kent and Jessica Clinger, of Orem, Utah; 15 grandchildren: Derek, Shannon, Shawn, Kaitlyn, Janessa, Wendell, Daniel, Jared, Laura, Natalie, Emma, Russell, Todd, Shelby, and Keith.

He joins his parents Eva and Albert; and two brothers: Jay (John) and Lee.   It will be a glorious reunion.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 11, 2017, at the Woodville LDS Chapel, Shelley 10th Ward, 1555 N. 700 E., Shelley, with Bishop Brian Bush officiating.   The family will meet with friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls, and at the church Thursday morning at 10:00 am.  Interment will be in the Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery, South Yellowstone Highway, Idaho Falls.
