Eugene M. 'Gene' Holverson, 84, of Idaho Falls, died Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at his home from causes incident to age. He was born on February 6, 1937, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Archie Holverson and Vinnie Fellabaum. He was the 5 th of 11 children. He grew up in Idaho Falls and attended Riverside Elementary, O.E. Bell Junior High, and Idaho Falls High School.
At the age of 17, he joined the United States Army. He became a member of the famous 508 th Company 'D' Airborne Regimental Combat Team. Later he became a member of the 101 st Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky.
On October 22, 1960, he married Blanche Olsen. They had 2 children: Steven and Deanna. They were later divorced. On May 6, 1989, he married Barbara Harr and gained 2 more daughters: Melanie and Valerie.
Gene worked several different jobs in Idaho Falls, ending up at Bonneville Industrial Supply (BISCO) where his gift of gab kept him for 35 years, retiring in 2015.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara 'Bobbie'; son, Steven; daughter, Deanna (Brian) Dorcheus and their children: Meisha (Jordan) Jensen and Jayce Dorcheus; stepdaughter, Melanie Smith; niece, Becky (Mike) Rice; grandchildren: Josh (Kim) Bean, Danielle Bean, Jessica Hodges, and Zach Smith; siblings: Dean Holverson, Marion (Kris) Holverson, Reed (Flo) Holverson, Joyce (Ron) Larsen all of Idaho Falls, Darlene Christensen of Ririe, and Fay Pinnock of Rigby; son-in-law Lou Sturm; and 5 great-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Vernon Holverson, Harvey Holverson, and Jimmie Holverson; sister, Elda Cox; and stepdaughter, Valerie Sturm.
In Gene's last few months he enjoyed telling stories of childhood and military experiences to his hospice nurses. He never failed to get a laugh from them. The family wants to thank Dr. Boyd Southwick and Hands of Hope Hospice for their wonderful care. Special angel, Cheryl, hospice nurses and staff have been a great comfort.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 am, Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery. Military rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team and the Idaho Military Honor Guard. Arrangements are under the direction of Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls.
