Obituary

Mertis "Gene" Morgan passed away at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center on December 22, 2014 from a long struggle with Coronary Artery Disease. Gene was born on February 28, 1945 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He was the third son born to his parents Mertis Morgan and Lucille Grover Morgan. Gene attended High School at Idaho Falls High. Gene married Linda Fairless in 1963 and had two daughters Alisa and Staci. Gene and Linda divorced in 1964. Gene then married Ann Rast, the love of his life, and had three daughters and one son: Shawna, Bryant, Angela and Jeneille. Gene and his wife Ann owned and operated Morgan Custom Pack and Meats on Lincoln Road from 1972 until 1983. Gene most definitely enjoyed hard work! When not hard at work in the meat packing plant Gene would spend time restoring classic cars and hot rods. Gene built and restored numerous vintage and classic cars from the ground up and was well respected by his peers and friends in this hobby group for his talents in doing so. Gene's hobby that he loved in his later years was his morning coffee with friends at Fred Meyers and McDonalds. Gene had a nickname "Groucho" that was used by those that knew him best as he did have the ability to be a bit grouchy from time to time. Gene was a man with a strong spiritual connection and belief in his higher power but keep that belief for the most part to himself as he was a live and let live kind of man. Gene is survived by his daughters: Alisa (Jim) Greene of Brentwood California; Staci (Tom) Reilly of Sausalito, California; Shawna McKelley of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Angela (Nick) Smit of Portland, Oregon; Jeneille (Jason) Kusch of Portland, Oregon. Gene is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren with several more on the way, as well as 3 brothers. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Mertis and Lucile; a son, Bryant, that passed away at the age of 4 and twin granddaughters, Isabelle and Gabrielle that passed away shortly after birth. Gene Morgan was a man that loved his family very much and his family loved him. Gene will be missed by all of us but never forgotten! You can now rest in peace Gene and may god bless your soul. The family would like to thank Gene's life companion Ann for the love and care she gave to Gene over these last few years. No service will be held at this time. A celebration of life will be held for Gene next summer. Loving you now and always Gene!
