George M Hay Jr., 74, of Shelley, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at Turtle & Crane Assisted Living. He was under the care of Eden Home Health and Hospice.

George was born on January 4, 1952, in Idaho Falls, to George M. Hay Sr. and Ruth Hicks Hay. He grew up in Idaho Falls and the Woodville area of Shelley. He graduated from Shelley High School in 1970. He continued his education and graduated with his associate’s degree in computer repair, and at EITC-ISU with an associate’s degree in criminal justice, and finished at ISU with a bachelor’s degree in social work.

On February 15, 1985, he married Vonda Russell Hay in Idaho Falls. After they were married, they made their home in Woodville, where he spent the rest of his life. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

George enjoyed motorcycles, computers, being outdoors, pets, and leather working; he also enjoyed beach combing and just having amazing friends and people to interact with. He was and is a great man, loyal and someone who always wore a smile.

He is survived by his wife, Vonda Hay; sons: Josh Stewart of Shelley, Idaho, and Aaron Stewart of Atwood, Kansas; his nieces: Myrna Hay of Watford, North Dakota, Lauri (Arnold) Graff of Billings, Montana, Brenda (Terry) Filler of Arnegard, North Dakota, Lisa (Ralph) Savage of Arco, Idaho, Jeanette (Dial) Gulbransen of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Trisha (Doug) Elting of Olathe, Kansas; his nephews: Robert Hay Jr. of Billings, Montana, Richard (Jackie) Hay of Threeforks, Montana, Ron (Tunda) Hay Jr., of Blackfoot, Idaho, and David (Wendy) Hay of Ammon, Idaho. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Charity Williams of Blackfoot, Idaho, and Michael McClurer of Idaho Falls, Idaho.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Hay Sr. and Ruth Hicks Hay; brothers: Robert Hay, Ron “Beaver” Hay, and Paul Hay.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at Boat Launch Park, 899 81st South, Shelley, Idaho 83274.
