Obituary

George Harry Quinton, 93, of Idaho Falls, passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2015, leaving behind many who loved and admired him, as well as the legacy of a Godly man. All who knew him were blessed to call him friend. We will miss his smile, his laughter, his quiet voice of wisdom, his wonderful stories of his life, his great love of family and friends, and his unshakable commitment to Jesus Christ and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. On March 10, 1946, George married Elva Ruth Hill, and they were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple November 22, 1946. They were married for 60 years. George and Elva raised 4 boys in an 800 square foot house, and dug a basement under the foundation for more room. After retirement from his B&G Auto Parts business, George and Elva served as missionaries for their church at the Carthage Jail Visitors Center in Nauvoo, Illinois. When they returned from their mission, they drove cars from Idaho Falls to Utah, Wyoming, Montana, and Washington for Hertz Rental Cars. George continued to drive until the age of 91. George was a loving husband and father. When Elva was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, he cared for her until a year before her death in 2006. With his true love gone and the children living miles away, the church became his family. The Alexanders, the Moores, and the Kuhns adopted him as their own. He loved little children and the church had plenty for him to love. He loved telling of his time in the Navy and showed his book so many times the pages were coming out. George had an amazing memory. He could name each of his many relations, who and when they married, where they lived and a story about each one. He was born on December 18, 1921, in Idaho Falls, ID to Jesse and Minnie Quinton. George was preceded in death by his wife, 2 brothers (Roscoe and Vernal) and 2 sisters (Verna and Bertha). He is survived by four sons, Larry (Dianne), Byron (Margie), Brent (Robin), Keith Quinton; one brother, Roy (Ranee'), one sister, Eva (Chris); 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren and many loved and adored nieces and nephews. A special "thank you" to the wonderful care givers, at the Life Care Center in Idaho Falls, for their loving care during George's illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September16, 2015, at Sage Lakes Ward Church, 3370 N. 500 W., Idaho Falls, Idaho. The family will visit with friends from 6-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 15, 2015, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls, and Wednesday one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery, 4600 S. Yellowstone Ave., Idaho Falls, Idaho. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.coltrinmortuary.com.
