Obituary

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, at the age of 90, George Elroy Rigby, passed on to his Heavenly Father on Sunday, August 2, 2015. He was under the care of Hands of Hope Hospice. Elroy was born on Wednesday, November 19, 1924, in Newton, Utah. His parents were Loretta Merrill Rigby and Martin Clarke Rigby. He received most of his schooling in Rexburg, Idaho. On March 21, 1944, he enlisted in the United States Army and was assigned to the 29th Infantry Division. He served in the European Theatre and was involved in the landing of Omaha Beach, Battle of the Bulge and the Rhine River. He received the rank of Tech Sargent during his service time. On May 27, 1946, he was honorably discharged from the Army. Upon his return to Rexburg, he met the love of his life, Ruby Robertson, who was a sophomore in college when they met. They were engaged a short time later and were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on March 14, 1947. They lived in Rexburg for a year; in 1951 they purchased their home in Idaho Falls where they still reside. He started to work for Coca-Cola Company and worked in the supervisory and sales department for 35 years. After his retirement he enjoyed doing activities with his family, watching western movies, and he enjoyed working with his hands. Throughout his life he was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in various positions. He loved the church deeply. The greatest joy in his life came from his wife and family. He is survived by his wife, Ruby, and two children, George (Peggy) Rigby, of Farmington, Utah and Virginia Wells, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and his brother Ronald (Hazel) Rigby, of Alexandria, Virginia; his four grandchildren: Chris Rigby, Trisha Pimentel, Tina Wells, T.J. Wells, and eleven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister. The family expresses deep appreciation for the loving care provided to Elroy by the Hands of Hope Hospice family. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 7, 2015, at the Idaho Falls LDS 10th Ward, 1200 Dunbar, Idaho Falls.
