Obituary

Gerald Hyrum "Jake" Stoddart, 83, of Idaho Falls died July 5, 2010, at Turtle and Crane Assisted Living. He was under the care of Creekside Hospice. He was born September 30, 1926, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Robert W. Stoddart and Ethel F. Severson Stoddart. He grew up in the Lincoln area and attended Ammon High School. He entered the military in 1944 and served in the U.S. Navy. On December 2, 1949, he married Myrna Jean Stallings in Idaho Falls at the home of Jake's parents. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on Feb. 18, 1965. Jake worked at the Utah-Idaho Sugar factory in Lincoln, for Mountain Bell, Westinghouse, and as a Journeyman Lineman and later as a Supervisor for the City of Idaho Falls Electrical Department. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Jake and Myrna served a mission at the Idaho Falls Visitor's Center. Jake enjoyed fly fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, camping, and his greatest love, his family. "There was never a person our Dad met that he didn't befriend. We love you Dad!" He is survived by the following: wife, Myrna J. Stoddart of Idaho Falls;daughters: Vicki Parkinson and Kally (Rob) Barker both of Idaho Falls;sons: Robert (Shannon) Stoddart of Portland, Oregon, and Rick Stoddart of Boise; 10 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren with 2 on the way; a brother, Duane (Colleen) Stoddart and sisters: Joan Adamson and Gloria (Doyle) Singleton all of Idaho Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert D. Stoddart, and a sister, Toni Bowers. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2010, at the Sandcreek LDS 2nd Ward Chapel, 2545 Mesa in Idaho Falls with Bishop David Weaver officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday evening from 6-8:00 p.m. at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Saturday one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in the Lincoln Cemetery where military rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team and the Idaho Honor Guard.
