Gertrude Elma Slimmer, 92, of Idaho Falls, died December 7, 2012, at Friends and Family Assisted Living Center in Idaho Falls. She was born June 20, 1920, in Youngwood, Pennsylvania, to Lawrence J. Gettemy and Irene Stauffer Gettemy. She grew up and attended schools in Youngwood. She graduated from high school in 1938. While living on the east coast, she worked in a defense factory during World War II. On April 12, 1952, she married Louis F. Slimmer Jr. Gertrude lived in Oak Park, Illinois; Chula Vista, California; Rowland Heights, California; and in Idaho Falls, Idaho, since 1978. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church where she was involved with the Ladies Circle. Gertrude enjoyed traveling, gardening, and tending the orchard, live stock, and her dogs and cats. Gertrude's family was her life; she was a caring, compassionate Mom who was loved by everyone. She is survived by the following:son, Louis Slimmer III of Idaho Falls;daughters: Cheryl Carroll of Yucapia, California, and Cindy McPherson of Vista, California; a brother, Donald Gettemy of Atlanta, Georgia; 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Slimmer Jr. on April 16, 1998; 2 sisters: Geraldine Gettemy and Margaret Myers; and a brother, Jim Gettemy. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 15, 2012, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 237 N. Water Ave., Idaho Falls, with Reverend Brenda Sene officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6-8:00 p.m. December 14, 2012 at Coltrin Mortuary and one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in the Iona Cemetery.
