Glenn "Scotty" Joel Scott, 87, of Idaho Falls, died August 24, 2009, at Idaho Falls Health & Rehabilitation. He was born September 17, 1921, in Letha, Idaho, the sixth child born to Joel Mannon Scott and Esther Vernon McMurtrey. He grew up and attended schools in Salmon. He served in the United States Army as a Tailgunner during World War II in the South Pacific. On June 23, 1945, he married Betty Jo Briggs in Las Vegas, Nevada. When the war ended, the couple returned to Salmon and lived there one year. It was here their son, Gary Neil was born. In the winter of 1946, the family moved to Idaho Falls where their daughter, Glennice, was born. Scotty was a heavy equipment operator and a member of the International Union of operating Engineers. Some of the projects he was involved with were the building of the roads at the ACE site (now the INL) and reconstruction overseas in Vietnam after the war. He worked for the predecessor to H&K contractors as well as other construction companies in the area. He was an active member and officer of the Veterans of Foreign Wars for over 40 years and a member of the Veterans Funeral Team for 20 years. He enjoyed many activities with his fellow members. He was Post Commander for the local VFW Post 2146 and State Commander. He was an active member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Lodge 576 for over 50 years. He enjoyed square dancing, fishing, hunting, gambling, frequent trips to Jack Pot, rodeos; especially being involved with the War Bonnet Rodeo when the Veterans were in charge of it, playing bingo and other activities at the VFW hall, traveling far and wide with and for VFW events and being a daily patron at the North Highway Cafe. He is survived by the his daughter, Glennice Jo Scott of Idaho Falls; a sister, Addaline Waddington of Salmon; grandchildren: Marcy Lynn Scott-Johnson of San Diego, CA; Mimi (Paul) Lewis and Conall (Amberlie) McCullagh of Idaho Falls great-grandchildren: Cheyenne, Dominic, Tatiana, and Rian Lewis, and Kyllian McCullagh all of Idaho Falls; and his girl friend, Bobbi Jean Rigoulot. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, who died 6 months after their 50th wedding anniversary in 1995; a son, Gary Neil Scott; sisters: Josie Scott, Donna Ve Anderson, Iva Scott and Wanda Higley; and brothers: Buster, Lester, Chester, and Delbert Scott. Funeral services will be Friday, August 28, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls. The family will visit with friends Thursday, August 27, 2009, from 7-8:30 p.m. and Friday one hour prior to the services both at the mortuary. Burial will be in the Salmon Cemetery Saturday, August 29, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. with military rites by the Bonneville County Veterans Team and the Idaho Honor Guard.
