Obituary

Glenn LaMar Smith (Buddy), 95, of Ammon, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2024, at Morning Star Assisted Living. He was under the care of Alliance Hospice of Idaho Falls.

Glenn was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho on January 29, 1929, to George A. Smith and Lovina Shurtliff Smith. He grew up in Ammon and graduated from Ammon High School in 1948. He attended Idaho Falls Business College where he was Student Body President. There he studied accounting. In June 1951, he joined the United States Army and was stationed in Japan. He was rewarded for his marksmanship and was a sharpshooter. He was discharged in May 1953.

On August 19, 1955, he married his sweetheart, Elma Jean Hansen, in the Idaho Falls Temple. They were blessed with eight children. Elma Jean passed away on January 3, 2024, after 68 years together.

Glenn has lived in Ammon his whole life except for his years in the Army. He briefly owned his own grocery store, was a bookkeeper for Architectural Building Supply, and worked for Bonneville School District 93. He later worked for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a custodian and retired from there.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission to the Southern States mission. He spent many years serving in the Scouting program and the American Legion. He enjoyed gardening and working in his yard, woodworking, camping, and fishing. He faced life with humor, kindness, and integrity.

Glenn is survived by his children: Jana (Ron) Hansen of Ammon, Idaho, Robert (Lisa) Smith of North Ogden, Utah, Susan (Gordon) Anderson of Rigby, Idaho, Rodney (Kristine) Smith of Kuna, Idaho, Lori (David) Broach of Eagle Mountain, Utah, Melanie (Sean) Youngquist of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Michelle Smith of Ammon, Idaho; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elma Jean Smith, and his daughter, Lynnette Smith.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 26, 2024, at the Ammon East Stake Center, 5366 E. 1st Street. The family will meet with friends from 6-8:00 p.m., Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls, and one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery.
