Grant Joseph Smith, 82, of Idaho Falls, died Friday, May 19, 2017, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

Grant was born on June 5, 1934, in Winder, Idaho, to Ingram and Lorene Smith. He went to high school in Preston, Idaho where he met his sweetheart, Gail Hobbs.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission to Denmark. When he returned home he married his sweetheart on March 18, 1957, in the Logan LDS Temple. To this union three children were born: Terry, Linda and Catherine.

Soon after his marriage he left to serve his country in the United States Marine Corp.

He is survived by his wife, Gail Smith; his son, Terry Smith; his daughters: Linda (David) Jamison, and Catherine Croft; his brother, Leness Smith; 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, LaVar; his sister, Connie; his son-in-law, Mark Croft; two grandchildren: Aisha and Vaughn.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon, Friday, May 26, 2017, at Willowbrook LDS Ward, 1200 Dunbar Street, Idaho Falls. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 25, 2017, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls, and one hour prior to the services at the church.
