Gwen Lewis Hendricks was surrounded by her family as she passed away at her home in Idaho Falls, Thursday, November 12, 2015. Gwen was born July 23, 1922 in Menan, Idaho to Wilford and Myrtle Lewis. She grew up on the family farm working in the fields and at her father's general store. She attended Midway High School where she held the position of Drum Majorette playing the snare drum. After graduating she worked at the high school library then moved to Salt Lake City where she worked as a radio tube inspector. During WWII she lived in Seattle and worked for Boeing Aircraft in the government store. She met L. Dayley Hendricks at a dance at Riverside Gardens. He had just returned home from serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He also returned home to a draft notice. Gwen and Dayley had a correspondence courtship. They were sealed November 23, 1943 in the Logan, Utah Temple. They lived in Brownswood, Texas while he received military training prior to serving in the Philippines during WWII. After the war they made their home in Rexburg, then Idaho Falls before moving to Firth where they spent the next 38 years. Gwen and Dayley were blessed with 6 children and enjoyed time together fishing, camping and spending time with family. While living in Firth, Gwen was employed by Idaho Supreme until she retired in 1984. Following her retirement, she and Dayley served a mission in St. George, Utah for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They were missionary hosts at the many church historical sites there. During that time they made wonderful friends, and returned for several winters to enjoy the warmer climate. They moved to Idaho Falls in 2000, where Dayley passed away in 2001. Gwen was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers: Ray and Darrell; and three sisters: LaVae, MaeJean, and Fern. She is survived by her six children; Ron (Julie) of Ogden, Utah; Danny (Shirley) of Rigby; Vicki Lyn Duffin (Lynn) of Shelley; Brad (DeLyn) of Idaho Falls; Ted (Beth) of Rexburg; and Todd (Jana) of Idaho Falls. She has 21 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren. She has been active in the LDS church serving in many positions. She was a wonderful homemaker and her family was her life's work. The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Aspen Hospice Care. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 20, 2015, at the Ammon North Stake Center, 4363 E. 17th St. The family will visit with friends from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, November 19, 2015 at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Fall and Friday one hour prior to the services at the church.
