IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Harold James
Hebdon
July 16, 1931 – May 6, 2018
Harold James Hebdon passed away quietly surrounded by family in his home on May 6, 2018, after an extended battle with cancer.
Harold was born July 16, 1931, to Edward Eardley and Ellen May Auger Hebdon in Preston Idaho. He was the 10 th of 11 children, 6 boys and 5 girls. His mother passed away after complications from surgery when he was just 3 years old and he was raised by friends and family members forming what became Harold's lifelong devotion to family!
Harold loved to serve, and he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Eastern Canadian Mission and in the Army during the Korean Conflict. These experiences were the beginning of a life full of service to his fellow man. He served in many leadership positions in the church including: as a Bishop and a counselor in the Stake Presidency.
On June 15, 1955, he married Jeniece Muir in the Logan LDS Temple.
They started in the sewing machine business in 1956, when they became affiliated with Bernina. In 1961, they started Hebdon's Bernina Sewing Center in Idaho Falls. In 1988 they retired however Harold remained active in the industry the rest of his life. He repaired and guaranteed all the sewing machines for the Deseret Industries in Idaho Falls and Rexburg free of charge for many years. He continued to repair sewing machines in his garage up to the time of his death. He will be missed by many, many people throughout Eastern Idaho, Western Montana and Wyoming who sought him out for his 60 plus years' experience, skill and talent in sewing machine repair.
He had a deep love for animals. In 1965, he and Jeniece purchased a small acreage north of Idaho Falls on East River Road (now 5 th West) where they raised many animals with their kids. There was always plenty to do and here he taught his children many valuable lessons and the importance of a good work ethic. He always led by example. He especially loved horses and spent many enjoyable summers with good friends on week-long pack trips into the wilderness areas of Yellowstone Park.
Harold was a kind and loving man with a great sense of humor. Everyone that met him loved him and became his friend and laughed with him. No one ever left without having heard a story, an anecdote or a joke. He always had a kind word and a smile for those he saw.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jeniece Hebdon; a daughter, Bonnie (the late Michael) Ellersick of Boise, Idaho; two sons: Jay (Tammy) Hebdon of Las Vegas, Nevada and Lynn (Julie) Hebdon of Kennewick, Washington; 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, 5 sisters and 5 brothers.
