Harry John Benson, 87, of Idaho Falls, died Sunday, April 8, 2012, at Lily and Syringa in Idaho Falls. He was born May 4, 1924, in Weiser, Idaho, to George Washington Benson and Anna Francis Smith. He grew up in Weiser and in 1943, he graduated from Payette High School. Harry served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. He went to work for Boeing Aircraft Company in 1948, and he was recalled into the Navy in 1951 and served thru 1953. Harry returned to work at Boeing in 1953 and worked for them in quality control until his retirement in 1982. On May 8, 1954, he married Ida Will Lee in San Francisco, California. They lived in Seattle, Washington until 1962 before moving to Huntsville, Alabama. In 1976, they moved to Idaho Falls where they were living until their recent deaths. Ida passed away Feb. 9, 2012. Harry had a private pilot license as well as a FAA airframe and power plant certificates. He enjoyed model airplane building and flying, fly fishing on the South Fork, spending winters in Arizona, golfing, and he built and flew VariEze in 1980. Harry was a loving husband, father and friend. He is survived by 2 daughters: Linda Ann Benson (Robert Hughes) of King William, Virginia, and Donna Louise (Tim) Morris of Idaho Falls. Besides his parents and his wife, Ida, Harry was preceded in death by his sisters: Louise Jenkinson and Beatrice Bourbonnie. Graveside services will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday, April 13, 2012, at Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites by the Bonneville County Veterans Team and the Idaho Honor Guard. The family will visit with friends from 11 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls, Idaho.
