Haven J. Stringham, 88 of Idaho Falls, died August 10, 2006, at Idaho Falls Health and Rehabilitation.

He was born May 31, 1918, in Holden, Utah to Platte Lyman Stringham and Ruby Ann Jones Stringham. He grew up in the Rose area and attended Blackfoot High School. He served with the U.S. Army in the Philippines during World War II.

On July 29, 1947, he married Merle Morris in Dillon, Montana. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Utah LDS Temple on March 19, 1956.

He spent his lifetime as a carpenter and home builder in southeastern Idaho, southern California, and Hawaii.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a Bishop, Stake President, High Priest Group Leader, Bishop's counselor, and Sunday School Superintendent. He and his wife served a church building mission in California from 1963-65.

He served as the Commander of the Rigby Veterans of Foreign Wars organization.

He was an avid reader, particularly church books, and he enjoyed playing horseshoes. He always kept a beautiful garden.

Haven loved nothing better than a beautiful piece of wood and what he could make of it. He was always generous with his time and talents in helping others in need, and he loved to tease his grandchildren.

He is survived by the following: wife, Merle Morris Stringham of Idaho Falls son, Randall Stringham of Yelm, Washington daughter, Patricia (Ralph) Thompson of Calera, Alabama daughters, Eileen Hancock and Connie Tohara both of Salt Lake City, Utah daughter, Karen (Fred) Cowart of Idaho Falls son, Kenneth (Kris) Stringham of Rigby brother, Kay (Margene) Stringham of Alpine, UT sister, Louise Lawrence of Kaysville, UT sister, Von Niese (Carl) Johannesen of Idaho Falls 18 grandchildren 44 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Glenna Whitehead and Helen Perkes; brothers, Ray, Jerry, and Stanley Stringham.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 14, 2006, at the Iona 7th Ward, 930 N. Crimson Dr., Idaho Falls with Bishop Drew Smith officiating. The family will visit with friends at the church one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in the Iona Cemetery with military rites by the Bonneville County Veterans Team.
