Helen Hunziker Petersen, 89, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2015, at Life Care Center in Idaho Falls. She was born March 17, 1926, in Rexburg, Idaho, to Edwin Hunziker and Lizzie Chiles Hunziker. She grew up and attended schools in the Rexburg area. On June 19, 1942, she married Eugene Petersen in Rexburg, Idaho, and their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Their first home was in Rexburg, and then they moved to Ingelwood, California, and finally settled in Idaho Falls. She worked part time in several fabric stores. She was a talented seamstress and loved sewing for her children and grandchildren. Helen was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She is survived by the following: daughters: Sonia Edwards of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Joanie (Robin) Edstrom of Mountain Home, Idaho; sons: Rick Petersen and Blair (Catherine) Petersen both of Idaho Falls; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren; and the following siblings: Harvey, Fonda and Jerry. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eugene, who passed away Oct. 5, 1999; a son, Ted Petersen, and 6 siblings. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 13, 2015, at the Ammon LDS 3rd Ward Chapel, 2150 Avocet Dr. with Alan Boyce officiating. The family will visit with friends one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls, Idaho.
