Obituary

James "Herb" Herbert Harrop, 86, of Idaho Falls, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at Safe Haven Assisted Living Center in Pocatello. Herb was born March 29, 1927, in Ririe, Idaho, to Joseph Harrop and May Miller Harrop, the sixth of seven children. He attended elementary and high school in Ririe. He graduated from Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho, with a Bachelors of Science degree. From 1945-47, he served in the U.S. Navy on the Aircraft Carrier USS Antietam on the island of Guam. He married Ruth Warner Harmer on July 9, 1977. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He taught school at Rigby Elementary, Central Junior High, and Eagle Rock Junior High. He was president of the Sixth District Classroom Teachers and an active member of I.F.E.A and lifetime member of N.E.A. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in numerous callings and positions including several Bishoprics, and as a temple officiator. He was an avid fisherman and rock hound. He taught 4-H and Boy Scouts. He was a master gardener with a particular love of roses. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers: Wren, Clyde, Roland, Marion, Thomas and one sister, Margaret. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth; five step-children: Marvin (Peggy) Harmer of Two Harbors, Minnesota; Gordon (Gloria) Harmer of Pocatello, Idaho; Karen (Rick) Gokey and Douglas (Adrienne) Harmer, both of Idaho Falls and Maryln Harmer of Park City, Utah, and numerous step-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the LDS Church Perpetual Education Fund through your ward. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 25, 2013, at the LDS Church, 3721 Shadow Mountain Trail in Idaho Falls. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2013, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls, and one hour prior to the services at the church.
