Obituary

Howard Crook, 94, joined his beloved wife on Thursday, June 14, 2012 after suffering from a stroke. He died at home surrounded by family. Howard was born in Heber City, Utah on May 7, 1918 to Frederick & Minnie Crook. He moved to Fallon, Nevada as a young man where he met his sweetheart, LaRene Hiatt. They were sealed to each other April 23, 1943 in the Salt Lake City Temple. They spent their first twenty years together in Fallon, Nevada, farming and running Lahontan Mill & Feed and raising six children. They moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho, in 1963 where they purchased Snake River Nursery and founded Town & Country Gardens. Howard was well known in the community for his integrity in business and his knowledge of plants and flowers. In 1984, Howard retired from the garden center and he and LaRene served an LDS mission to St. George, Utah. Upon completing their mission, they purchased a home in St. George where they lived until 2001 when they returned to Idaho Falls to be closer to their children and grandchildren. A lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Howard served faithfully as a high priest group leader, member of the bishopric, teacher and many other callings. Despite being legally blind from a young age he served his family, community and church with courage and optimism. Survivors include his children Dan (Jeanine) Crook of Twin Falls, B.Ann (Rick) Lattin of Fallon, Nevada, Gary (Joy) Crook of Silverton, Oregon, John (Maren) Crook of Idaho Falls, Teresa (Bill) Bush of Idaho Falls, Kris (Wayne) Clark of Rigby; 23 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and his guide dog, Tab. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, 3 sisters, 7 brothers, one great grandchild and two guide dogs. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Monday, June 18 at the Ammon North Stake Center at 4363 East 17th Street Ammon, Idaho.
