Obituary

Howard Wendell McCabe, 79, of Idaho Falls, died Thursday, October 12, 2006, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

He was born March 23, 1927, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Henry McCabe and Pearl Bean McCabe. He grew up and attended schools in Idaho Falls. He served in the Merchant Marines and the Air Force.

On December 27, 1957, he married Arlene Coggins in McKinnon, Wyoming.

He was one of the owners of McCabe Brothers Drilling Company along with his brothers. His business took him to all of the western and northern states. He retired a few years ago to pursue his favorite hobby, woodworking and cabinet making.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He enjoyed woodworking, camping, fishing, boating, and spending time with his grandchildren. His most admirable quality was his strong will to live after his doctors told him his condition was serious and that he didn't have long; he lived nearly 3 years surprising even the doctors!

He is survived by the following: wife, Arlene McCabe of Idaho Falls; 3 sons, Mark (Lori) McCabe of Shelley, Todd McCabe of Idaho Falls, Mikeal (Veronica) McCabe of Rigby; a daughter, Wendy (Kip) Michaelis of Layton, UT; 3 brothers, Arthur (Irlene) Mays of Portland, OR, Patrick (Carol) McCabe of Shelley, Harry (Karen)McCabe of Medford, OR; a sister, Genivieve (Lew) Ladwig of Port Angeles, WA, a step-sister, Maxine (Ron) Crossley of Rigby a step-brother, Roger (Doris) Snyder of Orem, UT his step-mother, Lena Weise of Rigby; and 7 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Anne McCabe, and two brothers, Bill and Edwin McCabe.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 14, 2006, at the Iona LDS 8th Ward Chapel, 5169 E. Denning Ave., with Bishop Robert Nield officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday evening from 7-8:30 p.m. at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St. Idaho Falls, and Saturday one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in the Ucon Cemetery.
