Hubert H. "Herby" Hoffenbacker, 77, of Idaho Falls, died April 1, 2011, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls. He was born March 7, 1934 in Phoenix, Michigan, to William and Helen Hoffenbacker. He lived in Phoenix, MI in his younger years and when he was in grade school the family moved to Butte, MT. He attended schools in Butte, and in 1953 he graduated from Butte High School. After High School he joined the United States Air Force where he was awarded the National Defense Service Ribbon. He was married June 30, 1957 in Butte, MT, to Diana Byrne. From 1966 to 1982 he worked at the Berkeley Pit, in Butte, until they closed down. From 1984-1995 he was an Electrician First Class at the Idaho National Laboratory where he retired. He was a member of Gold Hill Lutheran Church in Butte, MT. He loved playing with his dog Chester. He was an awesome handyman, and he loved to cook. He also loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a gentle bear of a man who was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and dogdad too. He will be forever in our hearts and memories. "You will be greatly missed." Funeral Service will be held at 1p.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St. Idaho Falls. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the mortuary. Burial will be at the Iona Cemetery where military rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team and the Idaho Military Honor Guard.
