Ida M. Barry wife of John, Mother of Jack and Tom died Sept 27, 2013, after a year long battle with Lymphoma. Ida was born June 3rd, 1947 to William J. and Ida M. (Dutcher) Boyce in Ballston Spa, New York. Ida was an accomplished young musician who won local talent contests and at the age of 9 entered a contest in Carnegie Hall in New York City. Her family's reward for doing so well in the contest was to buy her a 2 year old stud pony for her to train to ride. That started a lifelong passion for horses. In 1965, Ida met John, a young Navy sailor, at a Hack Stable where she boarded her horse near her home in Porter Corners, New York. They were married in Ballston Spa, New York on April 22nd, 1967. Ida's greatest accomplishment was her two sons. Ida started raising Miniature Poodles in Hawaii in 1969. Over the years since then she bred many different breeds including Miniature Poodles, Miniature Schnauzers, Pekinese, Shih Tzu's, Pomeranians and last but not least Shelties. When John was transferred to Idaho Falls in 1971, Ida's desire for equines flared up. Ida bred and raised many Regional Champions, Top Ten Appaloosas and a Canadian Nation Champion over the last 42 years. At one time just a few years ago, her herd was up to 32 head of horses. Her latest equine adventure was training Miniature Horses for driving with Colby. Ida has been a member of IApHC since 1971, EIQHA since the early 80s and IRHA since it was formed in the 80s. She proudly served on the Board of Directors of all three clubs. Ida also ran a successful goat breeding program in the 80s having had the #1 cream producing doe and the #3 milk producing doe at the same time. The horses won out over the goats! Ida was a gifted seamstress, as evidenced by the room full (literarily) of machines, accessories and material. She made most all of her show outfits, shirts for John, hoods and blankets for the dogs, goats and horses and was looking forward to teaching Alexis her skills. She could sew anything from lingerie to halters. Ida is survived by John, her Husband of 46 years; sons - CDR Jack (Alison) Barry of Fairfax, Virginia and Tom (Aimee) Barry of Rigby, Idaho; grandchildren: Alexis, Sam, Colby and Jim; brothers: James (Marie) Boyce of New York and Steven (Kathy) of Florida; three Aunts: Edna Komada of Nevada, Winifred Baldwin and Clara Dutcher of New York, and many cousins. Ida was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Ida, Uncles: Jack, Bob, Dutch and Milan; and her Aunt Martha. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Ida's name to your local Humane Society. The family will visit with friends from 4-6 p.m. October 26, 2013, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.coltrinmortuary.com
