Ida Lee Benson, 84 of Idaho Falls, passed away Thursday, February 9, 2012, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. She was born March 31, 1927, in Elba, Alabama, to Willie Ben Lee and Belma Chandler. She grew up in Alabama and in 1945, she graduated from Murphy High School in Mobile, Alabama. She continued her education at Auburn University. While working for the Department of the Army, Ida lived in Washington, D.C. and San Francisco. On May 8, 1954, she married Harry John Benson in San Francisco, California, and they moved to Seattle, Washington, where her daughters were born. In Huntsville, Alabama, she worked for GT&E and after moving to Idaho Falls, she worked for Challenge Dairy. Following her retirement, she spent several winters in Arizona. Ida enjoyed gardening, traveling, being with her family and friends. She always cared for others before herself. She is survived by her husband, Harry John Benson of Idaho Falls and her two daughters: Linda (Robert) Benson of King William, Virginia, and Donna (Tim) Morris of Idaho Falls. She is preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Henrietta Spake, and a brother, Bill Lee. Graveside services will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday, February 13, 2012, at Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 11 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., prior to leaving for the services.
