Obituary

Ila Margean Demitropoulos, age 79, of Idaho Falls, died on Wednesday, September 21, 2016, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. She was the wife of the late Alexander Demitropoulos, the daughter of the late Brigham and Altha (Tanner) Rock. Born in Rigby, Idaho on October 25, 1936 in a little log cabin on her grandparents' farm; where she lived until the age of 2. The family then moved to a home her father built in Idaho Falls on 3rd Street. She lived there until her father built another house just in front of that smaller house 5 years later.

Growing up she had many memories she shared with her family like the times they enjoyed riding sleds being pulled behind the car, the time her dad traded the family dog for a can of worms so they could go fishing, trips to her grandparents' home in Rigby for weekly visits, driving the family car without permission and going fishing with her parents and grandparents.

She graduated from Idaho Falls High School in the class of 1954.

Ila met her eternal companion, Alex Demitropoulos, in the summer of 1954. At the time, Ila worked at the Mountain Bell telephone company as a switch board operator. Alex was in the US Navy and was training here in Idaho for nuclear submarine duty. They dated and soon married on April 8, 1955. She is the mother of two sons; Steven and Peter.

After Ila and Alex married they traveled all over the country with assignments in the Navy and for family adventures. Some of the places she enjoyed traveling to and seeing the sights were Hawaii, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Washington D.C., New York, California, Tijuana, Mexico, Northern Idaho, Washington state and many places in between like Yellowstone National Park, Niagara Falls, Las Vegas, Nevada, and the Redwood Forest in northern California.

Ila enjoyed many hobbies like crocheting, arranging flowers, embroidering, housekeeping, bowling and Tolle painting on wood projects she and Alex cut out of wood and made.

She is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Ila served in many positions but most enjoyed serving as the Ward Camp Director for the Young Women Organization. She still talks about experiences of camping with those young women.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alex, both parents, Brigham and Altha Rock, and her Sister Lola (Ken) Dial and a sister-in-law Valoy (Vaughn) Rock.

She is survived by her sons: Steven (Mickie) and Peter (Patrice) of Idaho Falls; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; her brothers: Clarence (Sherri) Rock of Ucon, Idaho, and Vaughn Rock of Cedar City, Utah; and her sister Glenda, (George) Haller of Idaho Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 26, 2016, at Idaho Falls LDS 9th Ward, 395 Second Street. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.coltrinmortuary.com.
