Ira Hugh Coltrin, 97, of Burley, Idaho, died Monday, September 26, 2016, at Carriage Cove Assisted Living Center in Rexburg, Idaho.

He was born May 17, 1919, in Burley, Idaho, to Ira and Ocea Lewis Coltrin.  He grew up and attended schools in Burley, and graduated from Burley High School in 1937. He attended Albion State Normal School and graduated in 1939.

He served a mission to Brazil in 1940 for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

On March 20, 1944, he married Helen Beverly Luke in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Ira continued his education earning his Bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University and his Master's Degree from Utah State University.

They made their home in Burley, Idaho, where he farmed and became a teacher at Burley High School. He later went on to serve as principal at the South West, Miller, and Dworshak Schools. He was interested in the children he taught and knew their names and talents. He strove to be a positive influence in the lives of the students.

Ira was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in many capacities including, scouting, counselor in the Burley Stake Mission, the Pella Ward Bishopric, and the Cassia High Council.

Ira has given a life of service and love to his family, community, and his church.

He is survived by the following children: Stephen (Gwen) Coltrin, New Town, PA; Paul (Nancy) Coltrin, Idaho Falls, ID; Kathleen (Roscoe) Orton, Rexburg, ID; Merrilee (Richard) Broadbent, Richmond, UT; and Kent Coltrin, Burley, ID; 24 grandchildren and 78 great grandchildren; two brothers, Horace Coltrin,  Burley, ID, and Gene Coltrin, Tucson, AZ.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Beverly; three sisters: Elizabeth Adamson, Joan Jones, and Merla Bell; and two brothers, Lewis and Graham Coltrin.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, October 7, 2016, at the Pella LDS First Ward, 152 W. 400 S. Burley, Idaho. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, October 6th, and from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. prior to the services, both at the church. Interment will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Burley. Arrangements are under the direction of Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls, Idaho.
