Iris Bean Beattie, 84, of Ammon, died Sept. 1, 2005, at her home of cancer.
She was born May 1, 1921, in Sugar City, Idaho, the daughter of Harold Malvern and Florence Jarman Kirby Bean. She grew up in Sugar City, and graduated from Sugar-Salem High School in 1939. She attended Ricks College and Brigham Young University where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English.
She married Raymond DeLoy Beattie in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on May 9, 1941. She taught school in District 93 and District 91 including Ammon Junior High, Central, Clair E Gale. She retired from Eagle Rock Junior High after teaching 22 years.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints serving in the MIA, dance director with her husband, Relief Society president at the age of 74, and as a teacher in the Relief Society. She had a great interest in the Native Americans, and she spent time and resources contributing to their welfare. She served a welfare mission in Mexico sponsored by BYU. She enjoyed several hobbies such as dancing, cross-country skiing, gardening, stamping, and scrapbooking.
The grandchildren will miss her granny bags at Christmas, her children will miss gathering at her home on Sundays, birthdays and special occasions.
Survivors include her daughters: Florence Annette (John) Capener, Taylorsville, UT Madeline Barraclough, La Crescenta, CA her sons: Sidney (Jonquil) Beattie, Ammon, ID Todd (Vicki) Beattie, Ammon, ID Blaik (Debbie), Burton, Burton, ID sister Shanna Lael (Claude) Henderson, Rexburg, ID
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2005, at the Ammon West Stake Center on 2055 Coronado. The family will meet with friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Monday evening at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, and also from 9:30-10:40 a.m. Tuesday morning prior to the services. Burial will be at the Burton Cemetery.
